Life at Momentum

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Post from Haley Kanor
Aside from learning new things at Momentum everyday, being in London has been a treat in itself for me.

With less than two weeks left in London, there are many things I want to do before I leave. These include going to Tower Bridge and the Tate Modern.

I’ve already been to many of the typical tourist spots, such as the London Eye, Big Ben and Saint Paul’s. I’ve even been on a duck tour of the city, on which it hit a car outside Buckingham Palace-this only made our tour more fun..

One Friday night I was out with some friends in Knightsbridge and one friend said “there’s Didier Drogba.” I had no idea who this Didier person was; I thought maybe it was their friend. When my friend told me who he was I went right up to him and asked if I could take a picture with him. He grunted a little and as I got out my camera, my friend stood next to Drogba and I was taking a picture of them instead. Soon he went into the restaurant and my chance to have a picture was lost.

As a tourist/resident I often get lost, which sometimes is good because I end up seeing places I wouldn’t otherwise see. I have also made the mistake of taking the stairs in some Underground Stations only to come out of the station tired. .

There are things from home I miss, but for now I’m still exploring London. These next two weeks will go by fast, and I am sure I’ll continue to learn a lot here at Momentum whilst still getting to know London.

Golden Ticket Winners

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
July 15th saw 6 of the country’s most talented graphics and media graduates take part in Momentum’s first Golden Ticket event. We went along to New Designers show on the 10th and hand picked the 6 best creatives we could find, and invited them to join us here at St John's Square for a day of creative thinking, designing and development.

We teamed them up in groups of three and each worked on two live client briefs, giving them a one-off chance to experience the fast-paced, fast-thinking world that is Momentum.

At the end of the day, the two teams presented their day's work to Daniel, Paul B, Gazza, Tim and Denny. The teams worked very hard all day in hope of impressing the management team and being awarded the prize of a 2 month paid placement up here on the 5th floor.

The quality of work was excellent, and the ideas were of a very high standard. They even came up with some of the same ideas that we had already developed and presented!

After much deliberation, the team have chosen 2 winners, who will be joining us in the near future:

Sarah Abbey - Graphic Design graduate - http://www.sarahabbey.com/
Matt Collins - Multimedia Technology graduate - http://www.mcollins.co.uk

The dates are as yet unconfirmed but we very much look forward to having them contribute to our projects.

The C Company are putting on lunchbox theatre sessions at the Bridewell Theatre on Bride Lane just round the corner from St John's Square. This Thursday, Picnic Sessions is going to watch them walk the planks as they perform Romeo & Juliet in 45 minutes!

You can bring your lunch, it's £5 on the door (p.s. they don't take cards), so come along for a bit of lunchtime culture. It starts at 1:00 so we'll be leaving St John's Square at about 12:45 and should be back about 2:00. Check out the official flyer below, and find out more info HERE.

Reflections on a week with the creative team

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Following my previous entry the other week, I was lucky enough to experience working with the creative team on a pitch. It certainly was a busy week.

It was amazing to watch them do what they do. Someone can explain it but it was not until I experienced the entire process that I really understood what the 5th floor really does.

Sitting in meetings with the members of the team trying to figure out how to come up with the perfect creative idea. Ideas were thrown around, eventually decided on, and tasks were divided.

Watching the team work from the brief to the pitch and see how it all unfolds was the best part. At the beginning of the week, we had next to nothing and by the end of the week, we had all we needed.

From this experience with them I understood the marketing world a little better, and hopefully I was of some help to them.

Thx Haley.

Momentum’s very own ‘Golden ticket’

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Dan and Daniel have created Momo’s very own ‘Golden Tickets’, a new idea and approach to creative graduate recruitment. However, it won’t be found wrapped around Wonka Bars, instead the tickets will be awarded to six of the brightest creative talent showcasing their degree work at New Designers 2008.

New Designers is on this week and is the leading event in graduate design, and showcases the work of some 4000 newly qualified designers, including graduates in illustration and animation, graphic design & interactive media, photography, and theatre design and model making.

Daniel and the team will be attending the show and giving out 6 golden tickets to graduates with the most potential

The ticket enables the graduates to spend a day with us on the 15th July working on a live brief at Momentum. Daniel, Paul, Tim and Dan will be briefing them and ensuring their day runs smoothly. From there, the best performer/s will then be offered a paid placement at Momentum.

So if you see some new faces in on Tuesday morning, don’t forget to say a big hello!

Schmoozing at the 46664 event

Following on from Chris’s entry further below, just wanted to update you on what we got up to as well!
Simon, Paul, Jon, Daniel, Jim and I took a bunch of people to the concert with VIP tickets to hand.

Accompanying us were the Sony UK marketing director, Ricoh marketing director, Events magazine associate editor, Weber Shandwick’s new business director and creative director and a three strong team from McCann Erickson, the new business director and the joint heads of account management.

It was a really nice way to entertain our guests – show them what we could possibly do for their brand but also to show our fellow agencies under McCann Worldgroup what Momentum are capable of.

We had a fabulous time thanks to Gary and his dedicated team. Gary gave personal backstage tours to our clients, both who came back to us in awe. Definitely a good sign!
Favourites of the group were Amy Winehouse, Razorlight and the free bar in the hospitality section!

Congratulations to all those involved in helping activate this very special night.

Thx Steph

‘It’s in our hands’ as told to the audience by Will Smith

We are very pleased to announce that our friends at Greenroom have been named Marketing/PR Agency of Year at this year’s Home Entertainment Week (HEW) Awards held on Thursday June 26th.

The HEW Awards is one of the industry’s most prestigious awards shows, and celebrates the very best the UK home entertainment industry has to offer.

Greenroom Digital beat 9 agencies, which were short listed to 3, to the Marketing/PR Agency of the Year accolade. The HEW accolade is the second time Greenroom has been named Agency of the Year in 2008.

In April, the Greenroom won Supplier/Agency of the Year at the equally prestigious British Video Association Awards (BVA), and secures Greenroom’s position as the number 1 entertainment agency in the UK.

Now that’s pretty impressive…. Many congratulations Greenroom!

I’m very pleased to announce we’ve been accepted as official speakers at ‘Event UK 2008.’

Event UK incorporates the National Venue Show and it’s the main expo for all those involved in the event industry. It will have an educational programme, over 350 exhibiting companies and aims to be the perfect place to inspire future events.
Cick here for more info: www.event-uk.com

It will be a fantastic space to no doubt profile Momentum within the event discipline but will also be a huge networking opportunity for us.

So hence we are very pleased that Simon and Gary have the ideal speaker slot on the 17th September (2nd and last day of this event). They will be speaking from 10:15 – 11:00am about ‘brand promotion through events’.

You heard it here first!
