Momentum's support of the tremendously successful
American Express Unstaged concert series continued Friday in New York with an
amazing Jack White concert directed by his handpicked partner Gary Oldman. It
took a veritable "seven nation army" to execute the event flawlessly
from both an artistic and technical standpoint, and legions of in-person and
online fans rocked out as evidence of the team's collaborative success. The interesting story behind the event was
covered by Billboard magazine, which you can read below. Our own Joe Killian is
featured in the article discussing the simple ideas of why the experience works
for clients, fans and artists alike.
Congrats to everyone who contributed to
the big show.
Agency Creates Website to Collect Money 'Pixel by Pixel'
Published: May

As part of its "Give Back" initiative, Momentum Worldwide is working to raise
$25,000 to help the victims of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami that hit
Japan.
Momentum London created an online giving site, Rebuild Japan
Pixel by Pixel, encouraging people to donate £2 (or roughly $1.25) per pixel
to build an online image while contributing to disaster relief. The marketing
agency asks people to also tweet, "share" or "like" the site to spread the
message.
The money will be donated to Just Giving Japan, a nonprofit organization that
distributes funds to organizations providing relief such as International
Medical Corps and Save the Children.
In addition, Momentum created a video
message during an offsite management summit to demonstrate its support of
Japan. On the last day of the summit, Momentum employees paraded through New
Orleans' French Quarter with the Roots of Music marching band in "second line"
parade. These traditional New Orleans parades are put on throughout the year to
mark big events. The employees carried red and white umbrellas with the word
"love" written in different languages to show their unity with Japan.
"Disasters like the earthquake remind us how fragile life is ... but it also
reaffirms our strength," said Chris Weil, chairman-CEO, Momentum Worldwide, in a
statement. "We were especially touched by the children of New Orleans who led
this parade. Though they have suffered enormous loss and destruction, their
resilience is apparent."
Verizon and American Express put green screen in motion
Green-screen video activations make consumers the stars of the show
Green-screen photos are frequently the only giveaway items that attendees
keep and share with friends long after the event is over. Now, with the
proliferation of easy to make and upload video content, brands like Verizon and
American Express are leading the pack with unforgettable green-screen video
activations that put attendees inside the action like never before.
Verizon's How Sweet the Sound tour, which kicks off this fall, will again set
up concert-goers for a truly sweet experience. On site, fans who attend the tour
will be asked to pre-register on a Droid, submit some basic contact info and
choose a song to sing. All the data will be transferred to a barcode on a card,
which a staffer will swipe at the video singing station. Once they reach the
"studio," guests will sing their song, karaoke-style, in front of the camera,
with an audio recording of the full gospel choir as backup and video footage of
the choir playing behind them on a flat screen mounted in an oversize Verizon
phone.
After the live recording session, the software kicks into high gear with its
automatic editing feature that makes green-screen video feasible and
instantaneous. It will add in the branded framing, sync up the sound and video
tracks and transmit the finished product to the output chosen by the attendee
during registration in just a few minutes. Singers can get the video delivered
on an instantly burned DVD, or sent via MMS to their mobile phones if they are
Verizon customers. Brands that use the system can also opt for automatic upload
to a microsite or YouTube (Technology via: Radiant Event Technology, Detroit).
For fans that really want to get in on the action, the American Express
"Challenge a Pro" experience at the last U.S. Open tournament introduced a new
track syncing technology that allowed the fans to swing a racquet and see the
ball fly over the net in the video as though they'd hit it to either of the
on-board pros, Caroline Wozniacki and Sam Querrey, who returned the ball. The
activation uses a barcode registration card system for the relevant data
collect and activation choices. A staffer helps fans through the filming by
offering instructions on when to do a fore- or backhand, act like they won or
lost a point, or celebrate a win. The filming takes five to ten minutes. Once
the game is over and filming is done, the software makes note of where in space
the attendee's racquet broke a laser beam and syncs that spot in the
green-screen video with the spot in the pre-recorded video that the ball
appeared. The end result? A video clip of the consumer "playing" with the pros
(Agency: Momentum Worldwide, New York City Technology via: Radiant Event
Technology, Detroit). EM

Singapore, 17 June 2009 - The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) has awarded the management of the Singapore 2010 City Celebration site to Momentum, a division of McCann Worldgroup.
Momentum will develop a concept and programme that is integrated with other Games activities, carry out site operational planning and implementation for the City Celebration site. In addition, Momentum will launch a marketing and publicity campaign to promote the City Celebration site.
Around 600 on-ground crew and volunteers are expected to be recruited by Momentum to help with the smooth running of the Singapore 2010 City Celebration, to be held from early August, 2010 right through the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.
Mr Goh Kee Nguan, Chief Executive Officer of SYOGOC, said, "Momentum's proposal demonstrated a good understanding of the intent of the City Celebration site as a place for people to experience the excitement and festivity of the first Youth Olympic Games. Their proposed programme for the City Celebration incorporated the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect and given their involvement in past Olympic Games, Singaporeans and visitors can look forward to a memorable experience at the Singapore 2010 City Celebration."
Mark Ingrouille, Region Director, Southeast Asia, McCann Worldgroup said, "Following the earlier announcement of the partnership between McCann Erickson and SYOGOC to develop the Singapore 2010 marketing campaign, the appointment of Momentum for the City Celebration event represents a double recognition and underscores McCann Worldgroup's strength across disciplines."
